Lesson Policies

We take great pride in teaching your child(ren) at Elkhorn Equestrian Center. Students work toward their goals by riding, facing fears, building confidence and strengthening their skills. They also gain valuable equine education, whether they hope to someday own a horse or simply become better at something they never thought they could do.

Every time students saddle up and control such an amazing animal, they are accomplishing their goals—and so are we. Their progress is important, and consistent weekly riding allows them to see continued improvement in their lessons. For students to maintain strong performance and advance their riding skills, we have found that one lesson per week works best.

Lesson Packages and Attendance

Our lesson packages are set up monthly and include one lesson per week so students can improve their riding skills and meet their goals within a realistic timeframe. When students do not attend their scheduled lessons, they miss opportunities for advancement and may experience setbacks. Rescheduling lessons with the trainer can also be difficult, so please try not to miss a lesson.

We understand that students may become ill or have vacation plans, just as our trainers may occasionally need to reschedule. Several months each year include a fifth week that may be used for makeup lessons.

Please review the following policies:
-If you cannot attend your lesson, please notify Jose at least 24 hours in advance or as soon as possible so he is not waiting for you. Please check with Jose to determine whether the lesson needs to be made up.
-Missed lessons are not credited.
-No-call/no-show appointments count as completed lessons and cannot be made up.
-A missed lesson may be made up during a month that includes a fifth week. Please check with Jose to determine whether the lesson is eligible and when a makeup lesson may be scheduled.
-If a trainer needs to cancel, the trainer will try to reschedule the lesson at a day and time that works for both parties. If the month includes a fifth week for your regular lesson day, the additional week may serve as the makeup lesson.
-Makeup lessons may or may not be available depending on the trainer’s existing schedule.
-EEC may cancel lessons because of weather for the safety of students and staff. Trainers and parents may work together to reschedule or use a fifth week for the makeup lesson.
-Holidays considered “no lesson days” include Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Payment Policies

Emailed invoices are sent around the 20th of the preceding month for the upcoming lesson month.
Monthly lesson fees are due on the first of each month.

If payment is not received by the first, a $50 late fee will be added by the system on the fifth of the month.

If a payment is returned, a $25 bank service fee will be added in addition to the $50 late fee.

Physical Contact Policy

Horseback riding is a physical-contact sport. Appropriate physical contact between students and trainers, staff members, contractors or volunteers is a productive and inevitable part of the sport. A copy of EEC’s physical-contact policies is available upon request and is posted on the wall in the lounge for your convenience.
